Translated from Richard Wilhelm's German (1924)
The Judgment
The darkening of the light. It is favorable to be persistent in adversity.
The Image
The light has sunk down into the earth: the image of the darkening of the light. So the noble one lives among the multitude: they veil their radiance and yet stay bright.
First line, nine
Darkening of the light in flight. It lowers its wings. The noble one on their travels eats nothing for three days. But they have somewhere to go. The host has something to say about them.
Second line, six
The darkening of the light wounds them in the left thigh. They bring help with the power of a horse. Good fortune.
Third line, nine
The darkening of the light on the hunt in the south. One gets its great head. One must not be too hasty in expecting persistence.
Fourth line, six
They penetrate the left cavity of the belly. One obtains the heart of the darkening of the light, then leaves gate and courtyard behind.
Fifth line, six
Darkening of the light as with Prince Ji. Persistence is favorable.
Top line, six
Not light, but darkness. First they rose up to heaven, then they plunged down into the depths of the earth.
